Last week was tough. I was sad. Beaten down. Classes were getting to me. The never ending “to do list” felt so overwhelming. The stress of illness, bills, kids, school, work, you name it felt absolutely impossible. Dare I admit, that for a few dark moments, I questioned my faith.
Then, one day, I got a phone call. That call felt like a prayer answered, although that person didn’t know it. Later that afternoon, a friend stopped by out of the blue. How did she know? Finally, a simple text from someone else. Three people, who don’t talk, all knew, without me telling them… God. Faith. Intuition. Hope.
We went to a Tiki Bar on Friday and ate dinner sitting outside, watching the water in the lake. (We also watched the people, because they were too funny to ignore.”No shirt, No shoes, No problem!”) However, the drive and everything were a lot for Scott, and he didn’t feel very well that night.
However, on Saturday, we found a quiet lake, away from the characters. We sat as close to the water as we could. And we read in peace the whole morning. Then we read by the outdoor pool all afternoon. As we sat in the sun and applied copious amounts of sun screen, I noticed that Scott used his pain remote less and less. He spent more time awake and could concentrate on his book. My shoulders stopped hurting. I laughed. I rested and relaxed.
A day of sitting in the sun, together, relaxing, and reading for fun. We woke up. We lived. We laughed.
I can honestly say, two days later, Scott still is not using his remote often, I am tackling my “to do list” and the stress is feeling small, despite the fact that nothing has changed. Each day, I need to get our family out in the sun. It sounds simple, but the benefits are bigger than I can explain.
Thank you to our village, you all are a gift from God.
